some news sites offer the option of sending the link to the current article to your friends.

few issues/problems with such solutions:

• not every website offers this option. Only few news-sites offer such option, most websites do not have this.
  what if you want to send the link to an item you saw on a shopping site or the link to a blog or other websites that do not offer the "Email to a friend" option.
• if they do offer such option, you have to trust this particular website with your own email and your friends’ emails. If you read your news on many websites you need to trust each one of them with your personal information.
• next you have to remember your friends’ email addresses. If you have to switch to another application to find your friend’s email address you might as well go to your own email application and send the note from there. In that case you need to cut and paste the link to send the note.
• most of them use a pop-up window, which could be blocked by your pop-up blocker. If you allow the pop-ups from that website, they might pop-up other unwanted windows as well.
